The letter of James, chapter 2

"our righteousnesses" is Filthy rags ( before salvation )

Good Works ( after slavation )

Isa.64 [ 6] But we are all as an unclean thing, and all "our righteousnesses" are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

----------

Eph.2 [8] For by grace are ye saved through faith ; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

----------

James 2 [ 1] My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

Lev.19[ 15] Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

Deut.1[ 17] Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.

Deut.16[ 19] Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons , neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

2Chr.19[ 7] Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons , nor taking of gifts.

Prov.24[ 23] These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

Prov.28[ 21] To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

back to Jas.2

[2] For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
[
3] And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: [4] Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

Are you partial in the LAW?

נֹשְׂאִים פָּנִים בַּתּוֹרָה

Lift up your faces against the Torah? Better not!

Mal.2[ 9] Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law .

1Tim.5[ 21] I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

Jas.2[ 4] Are ye not then partial in yourselves , and are become judges of evil thoughts?

Jas.3[ 17] But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality , and without hypocrisy.

Prov.30 [ 32] If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

back to Jas.2

[5] Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
[
6] But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
[
7] Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

Lev.24[ 16] And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.

back to Jas.2

[8] If ye fulfil "the royal law" ( torah ) according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

Lev.19[ 18] Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself : I am the LORD.

back to Jas.2

[9] But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin , and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

1John.3 [4] Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

2Pet.3[ 14] Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless .

John.5[ 14] ... sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

John.8 [11]... go, and sin no more.

back to Jas.2

[10] For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
[
11] For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill , thou art become a transgressor of the law.

Exod. 20, Deut.5 - the 10 commandments

Exod.20

[1] And God spake all these words, saying,
[
2] I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
[
3] Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
[
4] Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
[
5] Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
[
6] And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
[
7] Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
[
8] Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
[
9] Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
[
10] But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
[
11] For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
[
12] Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
[
13] Thou shalt not kill.
[
14] Thou shalt not commit adultery.
[
15] Thou shalt not steal.
[
16] Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
[
17] Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

back to Jas.2

[12] So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.
[
13] For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
[14] What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
[15] If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
[
16] And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
[17] Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
[18] Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
[
19] Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Deut.6[ 4] Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

back to Jas.2
[20] But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead ?

[21] Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Gen.22

[22] Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
[
23] And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Gen.15 [6] And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

back to Jas.2

[24] Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
[25] Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? Joshua 6

[26 ] For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

We will give Account and be Judged

1Pet.4[ 17] For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?[ 18] And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

John.5[ 22] For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

John.12[ 48] He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: "the word" that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day

2Cor.5[ 10] For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Messiah / Christ ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Rom.14[ 10] But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Messiah / Christ.

Rom.2[ 2] But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. [ 3] And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Rom.1[ 32] Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Rom.2[ 5] But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God ;

Heb.9[27] And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Matt.12[ 36] But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Rom.14[ 11] For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.[12] So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Heb.13[ 17] Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Ecclesiastes 12

[12] And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.[13] Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.[14] For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Judged according to their works from the book ( the Word )

book of life ( better be in it )

Exod.32[ 32] Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written. [33] And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book .

Dan.7[ 10] A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened .

Rev.20 [ 12] And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life : and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books , according to their works . [13 ] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Phil.4[ 3] And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

Rev.3[ 5] He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Rev.13[ 8] And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Rev.17[ 8] The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

Rev.20[ 12] And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life : and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

[15] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Rev.21[ 27] And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Rev.22[ 19] And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

this book , this law

Deut.28[ 58] If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD;

Deut.30[ 8] And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.
[
9] And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers:
[
10] If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law , and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
[11] For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
[12] It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
[
13] Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
[
14] But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

[15] See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
[
16] In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
[
17] But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
[
18] I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.
[
19] I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
[
20] That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Deut.31[ 24] And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,[ 25] That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying, [ 26] Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.

Josh.1[ 8] This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Josh.8[ 31] As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.

[34] And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the book of the law.

Josh.23[ 6] Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left;

Mal.4 [4 ] Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.

Matt.5[ 17] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets : I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. [18 ] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law , till all be fulfilled.
